The Gargnano Nursery School

The Gargnano Nursery School

LOCATION: GARGNANO

At the request of the Feltrinelli family in 1923, the architect Alberico Balbiano di Belgiojoso designed the Gargnano nursery school over the foundation of a pre-existing structure.  He “renovated it from its foundation into an elegant and spacious building” (as the plaque at the entrance states). Located on the lake shore at the entrance to the town (on Via Donatori del Sangue road - and the Piazzale Boldini square), it has a three story L-shaped structure with a porticoed side on the ground floor and a loggia on the upper floor. The delicacy of the decorations and the chromatic relationship between the white cement ornamental motifs and the yellow plaster of the walls is noteworthy, as are the unique dormer windows with their sinuous lines, the interesting, twisted chimney stacks of various shapes and the small garden on the lake shore.
